[SISTER TRUTH] Be Not Afraid

Nobody can predict the future.

This time last year, I was living with my mom, bartending half the week and spending the other half in Barnes and Noble applying to news and magazine jobs and writing for my blog just trying to make a living.

This time last year, my car had broken down, I was barely making any money, I had no idea how I was ever going to get out of Hampton and start the career I wanted.black-woman-looking-up

This time last year, I could never have predicted everything that would happen in the next 365 days. I took some chances and opportunities and ended up in D.C., Las Vegas, New Orleans and now, New York City. I never knew whether each place would bring me to the people I wanted to meet or guarantee me the job I wanted but I took the chance. I stepped into the darkness and ended up in a better, brighter place.

I find myself in the same situation today. I don’t know what the next year is going to hold. I don’t know where I’ll be working, I don’t know who will still be around, I don’t even know where I’ll be living! The year ahead will be filled with new triumphs and new surprises, along with many different kinds of trials. All of these new, unknown experiences can be a little scary because we are uncertain of what will happen. But God knows!

Looking back, all of the things I was afraid of turned out to be some of the best moments in my life. Moving forward into the unknown allowed me to realize how great life can be when you give control of your life to God. All of my tests and trials in times of the unknown worked together for my good.

The Bible says in Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am your God.” We have nothing to fear in the unknown because we know that if God brought you to it, He can bring you through it. After all, He’s done it before. He can do it again.

These days, when I’m faced with the unknown and unexpected turns of life, I have an inexplicable peace. In fact, I get excited when life becomes unpredictable because I know that God is about to bring me out of a place where I’m not supposed to be and into a new blessing. We just have to trust that He knows what He’s doing, even when we don’t know what’s going to happen.

It’s impossible to see all of the good things God has in store for you. Or all of the trials and tribulations you may face. But you have God on your side and He does know what’s coming around the corner. He has your life in His hands. In the new year, walk with your head held high and your eyes wide open to see all of the good things God is about to do for you.

There will always be times in life when you won’t know what’s coming around the corner. But give your concerns to God. As it says in Philippians 4:6, “Be anxious for nothing (don’t worry about anything) but in everything by prayer… let your requests be made known to God.”

Don’t be afraid of what you don’t know. God is always with you and you’ll be amazed at what He will do for your good.

So moving forward, remember to be #Unapologettically Fearless.
